Chili sauce

Preserving was on my mind all throughout last winter, and I was determined to put a little something away for later, when we enjoyed harvests from the garden and farmer’s markets in Bloomington and Urbana. So we stocked up on canning books, read lots of blogs and ogled beautiful photos, and about once a month, I set to work canning my ass off.

Jams, pickles, syrups, jellies, and eventually chili sauce and ketchup. I think the 40# of tomatoes a couple weeks ago was the end of the craziness, but who really knows with these things. I have a tendency towards gleeful obsession when it comes to hobbies.

I’ll post something more comprehensive when I’m sure it’s over, but in the meantime I think my favorite recipes have been from this blog.

On Trend?

For my nascent yarn and fiber dyeing business, I sometimes check out the seasonal previews from a certain authority on color.

The monitor isn’t quite capturing the Spring 2011 report for me, but their words are making colors explode in my head:

Pink, Poppy Red, Grape, the colors of new-wave French electronica. Peruvian textiles, Fiery orange, Bitter lemon, Jewel green.
Paprika. Parrot Green, Ivory, Lavender.  Wanderlust. Ochre and Black. Rich Midnights, Aquamarine. Gemtones, powdered surfaces, lush oases. Ceramics in San Tropez. Pop art and beachside ease.
Ballet pink and pumice. Fireworks over the Bosporus. Spain. Catalina. Greece. 50s Garden Party. Charlotte Gainsbourg in Uruguay. Water from the mountains to the sea. Modern bohemia. Ice, Marble and Venice. Punk picnic. Soft, fluid, romantic accents. Textiles of India. Africa. South America. Shiny pop, mixed with earth and water. 90210 and Molly Ringwald. Mediterranean islands. Istanbul

Fall, 2010 is what I should be looking at for this weekend’s dyeing, though (and the reason I turned to the site in the first place), and again I found I really responded to the words in the report. So I made a wordle:
